In a world of endless online mixtapes and digital radio stations vying for your never-enough time, there’s gotta be some compelling reason for that…  Florence is film journalist Florence Scott-Anderson, and with A Requiem For Prime Time TV she very much leans into her area of expertise, stitching together a narcotised slide through film\/TV dialogue samples, soundtracks and a range of outre selections that don’t so much express a particular theme as elicit a particular feeling of aesthetic slippage - more of that where are in culture\/where are we in time music that privileges the role of curator as artist. The arcane, the obscure and the naggingly familiar compete in a dance of strange symbiosis. I’m sure plenty will find joy in prising this apart to identity the origins of the discrete parts (it feels good to ‘know stuff’, I understand…), but I’d rather just succumb to the seduction of the narrative of the bricolage and melt away along with it, in full praise of the DJ.
