Knockout return from the Enchante/Jolly Discs crew with this third installment in the Mind in Camden series. Along with the RAP & Thomas Bush output that exists in the same orbit, Enchante is a very particular expression of what i've always understood as especially London-sounding music, though the borough listed in the title feels like a (possibly purposeful) red herring. This is the music of sundown, after hours Peckham, Hackney, or Croydon, those parts of the city that become more alien under the cover of darkness and where future-forward electronic music seems to find both origin and momentum. What Enchante deal in is particularly evocative - skeletal and minimal, but pregnant with shadowy image and suspense: treks through the mist of closed innercity parks, the cold 4am canal-side air, waits for past-midnight buses that never show. What it means exactly, well, who is to say, and why try to parse meaning from the mystery anyway? Outside of the context of Jolly Discs, you'd perhaps align this most with the liminal inner-zones of Dean Blunt or early Burial, cities within cities, dreams within dreams... A psychogeography of the architecture of one's own mind? Possibly. Either way, Mind in Camden 3 is evidence again of the kind of dark magic that happens when this city turns on its lights.
