I'm not trying to be the best at using Google or whatever, but I'm sat here reading Daphne Oram's Wikipedia and feel it would be remiss not to quote it. Have a think about this: "Besides being a musical innovator, she was the first woman to direct an electronic music studio, the first woman to set up a personal electronic music studio and the first woman to design and construct an electronic musical instrument". What have you done today?
As a co-founder of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Oram is jointly responsible for near-all of your ghostbox/hauntology fascinations. That she's a woman might be the reason why that hasn't been ossified into legend. The re-press of this 4LP collection (originally released in 2010, out of print since 2013) is a reminder of just how pionering her work was(/is!). I'd consider this a vital touchstone if you've even just a passing interest in electronic music that favours the atmospheric, experiemental, immersive. Y'know, just the good stuff. Music for ghost walks through dystopian cityscapes.
Deluxe clear vinyl repress 4LP set on Young Americans. Mastered and cut at D&M and housed in a heavyweight, gatefold sleeve featuring rare archival photographs.
