Oamaru’s Cuticles are back on Siltbreeze with a second long player of scrambled lo-fi shenanigans that speaks loud and clear to their New Zealand heritage. The spirit of Flying Nun - of course: who else? - runs true here, 21(!) tracks of melody-infused ramshackle rabblerousing and whipsmarts that’ll drag you along by the feet regardless of your say in the matter. In short, Cuticles ain’t waiting for permission nor approval. The line-up has experienced a little shake up since we last heard from them, but really the MO is the same, straight from the brat-mouth of Matt Plunkett which, as it turns out, has quite a lot of funny/absurd/cryptic things to say, a bit like if GBV and UV Race (GBV Race?) were caught going at it in halcyon-era Dunedin. More Joy, they say, but what kind? Beers and BBQ music where there’s lot more beers than there is BBQ, perhaps? Disaster surely awaits and who’d wanna miss that.
FFO: UV Race, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Tall Dwarfs, The Gordons, GBV
