Ex-Trendees player Matthew Plunkett unites with Austen McMillian and Lisa Preston, the history of whom, musical or otherwise, i have no prior knowledge, for this astutely labeled debut LP for obvious home, Siltbreeze. Just how does Mr Lax keep unearthing this stuff? It's an especially pertinent question given the three-piece are situated in Oamaru (pop. 13900), a town 80 miles north of Dunedin on the south island, which even in the context of New Zealand's geographic isolation seems to be especially remote. Well, a watched pot never boils and this lot are markedly hot, a gift for anyone who wondered what you might get should you splice together the not already shared DNA of UV Race and the Homosexuals but were unable to make the connection themselves. DIY glam absurdity that suggests time spent in the company only of a close few, little in the way of neighbours to complain and a lot in the way of private jokes that refuse to be explained. Well, it aint so much private anymore and the laughs keep coming, even if i can relate a little too closely: there's a song called 'Cheese In My Brain' that surely any halfway idiot will share some understanding with. Major Works might be The Cuticles only works but that doesn't mean it aint true. Another chicken dinner from the Siltbreeze junkyard.
