Are you keeping up? This is something like the 40+ release Indiana's Crazy Doberman collective have spat out since 2017, and i'd be lying if i said i'd heard all of them - and so would you i'd venture, unless you're in Crazy Doberman, which there's also a good chance of since there's something like 17 of them on this new record... Hard to pigeonhole exactly what's going on with this crew given how free-ranging they are, but i'll take a shot at this new one: acid-burned, art-damaged psych flex with a wild free 'n' uneasy spontaneous improv spirit. Really, though, i shouldn't call this anything but punk. Straight outta the swamp mutant jazz punk... And for what it's worth, this one passed the shop litmus test many times over - a lot of people asking what it is when it's played. And so, Indiana's weirdo heart beats as strong as ever.
"Penumbra, from the Latin paene (almost) and umbra (shadow), refers to the partially luminescent fringe of an opaque object, like the streetlight outlining the sole of a shoe hurtling towards your eye. Hypnagogic, from the Greek hupnos (sleep) and agōgos (leading), refers to the drowsy state before sleep. Crazy Doberman here comprises 17 players from the greater Europe of the Midwest. Basement glyphs. Who’s on the lease? And what’s under the rug. The owner pays them to keep away the beast of busco. They do spontaneity, welcoming simultaneity, montaged in post. Further spool’t month to month, basking in the stroboscope". -Sam Lefebvre
