Cassette
The songs on this tape are almost all literal bedroom recordings, and they are all home recordings. They are demos of songs I wrote and worked out in the time between finishing Cindy's record Why Not Now? and starting to record Cindy's EP Swan Lake. Most were turned into full band songs for those records -- some more and some less changed from the demo version. The Violins is a full band demo and a real collaboration -- I'm joined by Oli Lipton, Staizsh Rodrigues and Will Smith and recorded by Oli -- and the most recent of the songs in the collection. I was also joined by Mike Ramos playing a cardboard box on Saw It All, and Mike provided a lot of help with mixing and getting these songs into a shareable format.
Home demos have made all the difference to me: it has changed my songwriting to be able to make a private version and it has changed the band to be able to work with a fuller idea of a song's mood. It's easy to hear that I'm more relaxed, alone with a four track tape machine. I hope that these rough versions of songs have something to offer you as well.
