7"
On their Bandcamp page, Chronophage are presenting their 7" EP with either unnecessary humility or pisstaking zeal. They claim, amongst other things, that it's neither fun nor cool, that it doesn't 'swing' and that you, loyal listener, are not allowed to like it. Maybe they're trying to weed out the bag eggs. Or perhaps it's easier to thrust out new sounds into this callow world with lowered expectations. Either way, those words are mostly wrong. Cool, fun and swing is one thing, but whatever that might entail, I do most certainly like it. Four songs of mighty melody and supple twists n turns that hook you in and knock you back in equal measure. There's is the kind of knotty songwriting you rarely hear done this well, something like if East River Pipe's deliacy had been passed through an imperial-era Flying Nun filter. I should also add that they claim Musical Attack: Communist + Anarchist Friendship will not appreciate in value. Wrong again, I fear: many should value this very highly.
FFO: East River Pipe, The Chills, Smashing Times, Soup Activists, Donna Allen
