Having brought us those stellar No Unauthorized and Coldreams reissues, Camisole continue their exemplary archival work with Nuts & Co's previously v. hard to find Kangourou from 1982. A bit of a grailed item it seems, and one listen through makes it clear why. Nuts & Co. specialise in the more avant orientated strand of minimal/cold wave, dizzyingly switching between French and German, and displaying as much kinship with their krautrock antecedents as DIY punk spirit that presaged synthpop. Mostly steering away from the fruity histrionics characteristic of the more well known purveyors of European synthpop, Kangourou is oddshaped and artschool, a kind of mutant cousin of Vox Populi, The Misz and Palais Schaumburg. There's a good chance this mob were taking the piss - the Nuts & Co. name is a big clue - but they do it formidably. For all its obtuse experimentalism, it aint half catchy and contagious. Which seems to be the spirit of the season...
