7"
Double A side of ever-blossoming guitar wonder from the mercurial Roy Montgomery. What we already know is what we get more of here, even on a format that doesn't seem quite enough for that which Montgomery excels in. Which is in fact that kind of in excelsis guitar playing that's always on its way to becoming, ever-ascending and enveloping, nearing on the ecstatic but keeping enough back to hold the mystery forever alive. The title track pairs with Emma Johnston for a suitably ethereal vocal contribution that imagines how This Mortal Coil might have been shaped had Roy joined their ranks, while the flip is a typically painterly piece of smudged guitar impressionism that might make you wonder about the South Islands Loren Connors. A 7" is never going to be enough Roy Montgomery. But it's what we've got and you'd do well to show a little gratitude. Eternal.
