Managed to miss this great series of 12s released by Matière Mémoire last year, an ambitious project involving 20 records from 20 different artists, each consisting of one 20 minute recording, limited to 500 copies each (missed a trick not making it 20 copies, or 500 artists...). It's a deep and winding series, though we've managed to obtain some copies of two of the headline contributors in Jim O'Rourke and Stephen O'Malley. Given the concept and those names involved, this is unsurprisingly experimental fair, though the kind fans of O' Rourke's avant output will be very fond of, his contribution a slowly cascading composition that begins with mirco-tonal improvisations before building into an almost-Berlin School like spiral of droning bliss. O'Malley turns out something a little less expected, and certainly a lot prettier than Sunn fans might be accustomed to. Drone has always been present within his work, though there's no concession to the 'brown note' explored here, instead more in line with the work he's been recently producing with Kali Malone, an immersive exploration into harmonic stasis that evolves into glitchy discordance. Two exquisite long form forays into drone minimalism it took us too long to get round to - don't make the same mistake.

Each contained in a transparent sleeve printed with the MMXX logo, and each coming with a print of the artist artwork.
