Best of 2020
Damn, new DJ Python! It's been out for a week or two (only just arrived here because of aforementioned distro issues), but it's only now I’m sitting down to write about it and... i keep zoning out, losing my thread. In true snake charmer style, this is utterly hypnotic fair from a fella who's slowly establishing himself as one of the current best. It's a seamlessly composed 50 minutes of vocal loops and heat struck bounce that's all shades of summer nights, the discreet tracks only discernible by the splits on the record or when a coquettish LA Warman voiceover crops up 30+ minutes in to deliver a seductively withering Jenny Hval-like monologue. And when that bass drops in around 10 mins into that specific track, well, you can send me to heaven right there and then. Also worth pointing out this is one of those records that sounds infinitely better on record than through your laptop/streaming whatever - i'd been listening to this on headphones while doing my government allotted 30 mins but it's only really come alive here on the stereo. Can understand why this one is getting talked up in all the right places, beautiful and necessary record that it is.
