Bysund - Tornskadekirke (1-4) & Sebastian Bruun - Formationer På Gyldne Græsgange
Three new tapes from the broad stable of Copenhagen's Forlaget Kornmod. The music present on each of these cassettes is a little different, from the experimental noise excursions of Bysund, to Himmelrun's meandering, lo-fi folk rock melodicism, to the cavernous ambience of Sebastian Bruun, yet they make a kind of strange sense together. Like everything on the label, this is music that reaches into the margins of Danish music, elevating outsider activity, giving it space to breathe and, you might even argue, reason to exist. In that context, highlighting one above another feels a little churlish, but i will nonetheless admit a preference for the cascading etherealism of Sebastian Bruun, who seems to add a little extra to an already busy field, but really it's all worthy of investigation. And given all the complications and expenses around vinyl releases, it's also further evidence of the value of tape culture, that ability to be adaptable and swift, either capturing creative endeavour in real time or documenting fleeting micro-moments.
