Set-your-controls-for-the-heart-of-the-sun collection of cosmic cassette recordings from Athen's resident, Christos Chondropoulos and a spot on new addition to the ever out-there 12th Isle universe. There's a lot of music here, fifthteen songs across two discs in fact, all said to have been recorded over the past five years. Given the period of time taken to produce the music, the results are understandably fractured and varied, Chondropoulous exploring all sorts of territory, spanning komische/kraut, ambient, boogie, folk & traditional musics (i believe the greek term is Éntekhno?), jazz abstraction and various manifestations of electronic experimentation. I mean, it's a lot to understand at once, and if there's any unifying concept or aesthetic, it's place, drawing on Greek history and tradition, just as the title suggests. I'll struggle to make any accurate direct comparisons, but long time 12th Isle followers will be easily drawn in, while there's something to love for anyone who's found value in Futuro Antico, Jorge Reyes, Riccardo Sinigaglia, Besombes Rizet, or even the slightly mutated Hosono and Sakamoto productions from the late 70s/80s. Quite a range!
