Most overtly rocking output for some time from Siltbreeze with this debut vinyl appearance by charred Bay Area post-punkers, Fog Lamp. A cursory Googling tells me the band have been kicking around for a few years already, albeit originally in a slightly different guise to that they're showcasing on Still Entangled. Early tapes advertised a trio and a drum machine, flexing a Cabs/Numan/early Cold Cave interest that showed promise if not progress. With the addition of drummer Rachelle Hughes, they've become a different beast, a more muscular operation now with increased Greg Sage-style downstroke doom(-town) mongering and deadpan delivery. The label rightly references Chrome, though alongside those freaks and the aforementioned The Wipers, I'm also getting a large dose of second album Total Control, the kind of synth-punk workout that's as funny as it is fatal (why else call one of your best songs 'Library Cop' if not to laugh as you land the punch). Been a minute since the underground produced a band of this nature of such high quality. No faint praise to say that Fog Lamp remind us of what we've been missing.
