RESTOCK ARRIVING MID APRIL
2026 clear green vinyl press
Latest vinyl pressing of the much-sought after cult second album by Japanese indiepop trio, 800 Cherries. The Sapporo-based trio of Manami, Otera and Takahashi formed in 1994 and were closely-tied to the Clover Records imprint, a small but tightly conceived conclave of DIY-informed indie groups that contextualised the output of its local groups by positioning their music alongside that of Western contemporaries like Orange Cake Mix, Blueboy, Trembling Blue Stars and The Cat's Miaow (cats, of course, seemingly being the label's spirit animal). 800 Cherries fit perfectly within our understanding of the International Pop Underground, a lovingly realised combination of Space Age pop, motorik chanson, and Lilliputian shoegaze that's charged with charm and aesthetic understanding. The Japanese language might be the only thing accounting for their lack of wider success (though their millions of streams on various online platforms speak to some degree of recognition), for this is the kind of inventive late 90s underground pop that has obvious universal appeal, part ways Stereolab, MBV and Black Tambourine, but, as its title would suggest, mostly shaped by its own romantic spirit.
FFO: Stereolab, Rocketship, Black Tambourine, The Lilys
