Since we've just received a hefty wedge of the previously hard to find Ever/Never catalogue, i've decided to throw a little light on some of their deeper cuts many might have missed. First up is Strike Now, a reissue of Code BMUS' four track EP from 1981. Recorded in This Heat's Cold Storage set up in London, this is primitive-sounding but high-minded artpunk alien minimalism of the very highest order, that although sharing time, space and spirit with TH, Crass, Pop Group et al, also displays a very obvious kinship with Pere Ubu and a Residents-like tendency for the provocative and absurd. Seems like the band didn't last long beyond 1981, but what they got down on tape still sounds fresh to me. Mosquitoes fans will enjoy (i should know, cos i'm a Mosquitoes fan), no wonder it's on the same label...
