Domestic Departure are back with this highly spirited introduction to Richmond's Added Dimensions, a duo led by the highwire-taut indiepoptimism of Sarah Everton and propelled by the in-the-pocket linearity of drummer Rob Garcia. The title is a cracker and tells you an awful lot about where these songs are coming from, both in terms of politics (if you're living in America and making music like this right now, the subject matter just presents itself) and the range of influences - Swells Maps, Wire, Kleenex from this side of the Atlantic, Pylon and Suburban Lawns from theirs (and early Sleater Kinney too, though that doesn't track with my narrative line so we'll consider that an addendum). It's the kind of sound that's built into the songbook of the American underground, and with such instant sing-song accessibility and immaculate execution, Added Dimensions reassert the understanding that there's always room on the broom for new iterations and contributions. Anger, anxiety and uncertainty have long been inspirations for such things, but it's rare they've sounded this, well, fun. One step at a time indie rocking that's just out there living against the tide. There's a lot to love in that sentiment, even more to relate to.
Note: we've also managed to back a couple of copies of the debut EP that came out this time last year. Pick up Timesuck/Hell Bent HERE.
