Ooops, missed this one when it came out a few weeks back, but it's a killer! Cestrum Nocturnum sees the Athens-based electro-acoustic composer Panos Alexiadis take time out from his own label to partner with B.A.A.D.M. for a mightily weighty delve into emotional ambience akin to the best of PAN's Mono No Aware and West Mineral's fractured bliss. It's a deceptively immersive experience, a series of looped pianos, sustained digital ciphers and abstracted vocals undulating and blooming in heavy symbiosis, like voicenote confessionals without any easily discernible meaning sent from the void. Does the world need another 'ambient' record? Yes, as it turns out, and I was surprised as you are. Transportative, emotionally rich, hard enough to parse so you can impose your own meaning upon it - Alexiadis ticks all the right boxes, and leaves something else mysteriously distinct floating around the edges to encourage repeat listens. I'm nearly a month in and showing little sign of fatigue. Now that's an endorsement...
