Austrian artist, musician and instrument builder Hannah Todt does not need a punk name with a second name like that! It suited the earlier music she was known for as a singer in the Austrian punkbands Autor and Gomme, and her later slightly (c)old wavy solo synth project Todt as a glove! Next to all that Hannah Todt also makes great drawings, sculptures and various flutes. Some of these flutes are based on a song, others are too big to play alone, others are overcooked for a dinner where all present artworks were eatable.
The recordings of One And Many Flutes were made entirely with steel tubes, which form a modular installation that can be played as a collective flute. For the recordings, Todt played the flutes on her own, while in live settings the installation is activated by a group of people. Each tube has a mouth hole that produces individual notes, like fragments of a deconstructed transverse flute distributed among several players.
Limited to 100 copies comes in a nicely designed sleeve by graphic designer Jeroen Wille, with a silkscreen on the b side and photo's of the installation used as an instrument on this recording.
For those who are curious for music made by visual artists, and fans of slow japanese flute music, Annea Lockwood, Albert Mayr, etc.
