I think I've had more people talk to me about Sun Ra in the last few weeks than any other time in my life. Music this tuned into infinity stands outside of time, but it does feel like a lot of people are having a 'moment' with him right now. Perhaps it's a result of all that introspective indoor life leading to a need for spiritual salvation, perhaps space feels a lot more inviting than this planet right now, or perhaps we're all just coming round to his belief that "it's already after the end of the world". Whatever it is, these latest, beautifully presented re-presses on Art Yard are well-timed and as essential as ever. There is no Sun Ra that you don't need, but you especially need Disco 3000. Imagine calling a song that before you'd even reached the future of 2000? It's called eternal perception. Sun Ra floats above us all.
