Proto-lockdown music making from the debut collaboration between David Fenech and Christophe Petchanatz, recorded over the past decade via a series of remote exchanges. You often hear about records being made this way yet see no evidence of the process in the final work, but that's certainly not the case here. The pair use this form of creative exchange as a means to walk around a whole host of musical curiosities and impulsions, a musicbox like approach to writing that translates into a series of vignettes that take in folk, jazz, dub, chanson melody and eastern musics. There's a danger with this kind of thing that it becomes a little, shall we say, solipstic, but the naiviety and charm win through. There's something like the spirit of Broadcast and Focus Group in here, but it reminded me most of the private universe transmissions from World Standard, that formless exploration of sound and idea that manages to retain an odd-soul. The weird, the errie and the intimate all in one shot.
