The whirr of the Australian Super Group klaxon is in the air… The Truffle Pigs are the newly formed trio of Steph Hughes, Amy Hill and Al Montfort, individuals all who have previously featured in many of your favourite bands from the past 15 years of Australian music. Dick Diver. The Stroppies. Terry. Total Control. UV Race. And the beat goes on… The results of this new constellation are of course thrilling and charming and exactly in the same key of off-kilter songcraft as such pedigree would suggest. Everyone is a little older, and who knows, maybe a little wiser, and certainly a little more wistful and reflective and, hey, maybe even more romantic. These ten tracks jangle and lope along with a lovely poetry, replete with neatly packed confessions and observations in ways that seem to be entirely sovereign to the great Australian peoples. They’re funny and they’re heartbreaking and just what you need when you’re fed up with systems and dickheads and reasons why you can’t when you really want to. There is no centre of the universe, but it’s albums like this that make you think it could be in a Melbourne backyard, around a beer and caught under an amber light. A really very sweet addition to that great lineage of happysad indiepop truthsaying.
