Another day, another Australian band who are better than all the bands from this increasingly shitland (possibly anywhere else). 'cept Low Life have been around a minute longer than most. In fact, it's been so long since the release of their debut Dogging (2014) that I'd assumed they'd knocked it on the head. Instead they're back to smack us in the face.
If you liked Dogging - which I personally did very much - then Downer Edn is gonna tickle and touch you good. What Lowlife do is not dissimilar to that first Total Control record, but the main point of difference, as you'd possibly infer from the band name and title, is the unashamedly bleak lyrics (Spurs fans aint they!). They're funny fuckers too, of course, cos the best humour is often found in the shittest circumstances, which in their case is Sydney, where "the eternal influx of troubled people looking to get into trouble, is our experience and main influence". And i'm gonna whisper it, but the excessive use of the echo pedal makes this sound hella like early Oasis. There can be no higher praise.
