*WORLD OF ECHO EXCLUSIVE*
Expanded edition - royal blue vinyl with bonus CD mini-album, only available at World of Echo outside of NA.
Back to the start we go with this latest comp of The Reds, Pinks and Purples material featuring that first four song 7" on IDDB alongside six additional tracks you may or may not have already heard depending on how closely you follow Glenn Donaldson's ever-changing Bandcamp page. Those songs from the 7" remain an astonishing introduction to the prolific streak Donaldson has yet to break, perhaps containing at least two of his best (/my favourite), I Should Have Helped You and Unrequited. If you've yet to hear a RP&Ps track (and honestly, also, how?), then you'd do worse than to start with those two, both succinctly capturing the MO of forlorn, lovelorn but ostensibly knowing indiepop wallflower emotionalism that Donaldson has since honed over something like 150 songs. As for the other songs, well... Astonishingly, there might also be argument to suggest this is the best collection of GD's material to date, capturing as it does so many different aspects of his songwriting - there's the music fan biography of Saw You At the Record Shop Today, the wage slave denouncement of Workers of the World, the seasonal song exercise of We Won't Come Home at Christmas Time, and, my latest crush, the gently epic Big Love statement of Sky & Earth. You've heard variations of these themes elsewhere in the Reds, Pinks catalogue, though whether they're done better is almost irrelevant. Donaldson has built a universe around these ideas and approaches, and if you're taken with one, then you're gonna need them all. How many more Reds, Pinks and Purples records does the world need? All of them. More. There's never enough. Which is just as well, actually, since the edition we have also comes with a bonus CD featuring more exclusive material (five songs, actually), all as vital to what must be the hottest run in indie rock music right now.
This version with the CD included is only available in the US via Slumberland, or via World of Echo everywhere else.
