2019 Abbey Road Remaster
How was this out of print? Why isn’t this a staple? The Music Industry is an unfathomable beast. Well fuck it, it’s here again now. Gibbons’ soul power has always burned dark and true, but on Out of Season it seems to tap into something more earthy, more of the land. Portishead seemed to express its Englishness through its isolationism and psycho paranoia. Out of Season does so in its openness. It’s warmer, more open, loving even, in a very folk like manner. This record is nearly 20 years old. But really, it’s eternal. These songs have been in the soil and in our bones forever, somehow. It just took a voice like Gibbons to divine them. Utterly essential. Out tomorrow.
