Quite possibly a one-and-done document of the JJ Band, a Gothenburg assemblage pieced together by JJulius for an ancillary live performance to the recording of his solo albums in late 2021. It's a teasingly melodic and highly spirited outing, clearly made on the fly with a cut and run energy. Across four tracks they mine some space between the strident jangle of the much-missed Skiftande Enheter and doleful gloom of JJulius' Vol. 1, displaying both a uniquely instant connection and a surfeit of ideas that belies its short runtime. Incipientium's Gustav Danielsbacka even takes a turn on guitar, a contribution that couldn't be much further removed from his usual output, somehow adding further credence to both - the guy's clearly a few strings to his bow. The spontaneous nature of the project alongside the involvement of unexpected figures from the Gothenburg scene is very much at the centre of its ramshackle charm, a could-be lost C86 transmission that in reality was actually very much within our reach if only we'd been given the address(/airfare). Don't be surprised if you don't hear from them again. Sometimes it's more romantic that way.
