Here it is. THE SCENE REPORT OF 2021 (and 2019 & 2020). Two discs and 31 tracks that trace the international contemporary DIY underground in all it's sprawling and inscrutable glory. Melbourne to New Haven to Gothenburg to Norwich. The unspoken spiritual connections between Forlag for Fri Muzik, A Colourful Storm, Spillage Fete... And then all of these micro iterations of oddball creativity and private expression that colour the spaces in between and outside of. Included in all of that is new music from the best of the best right now: Mosquitoes, Stefan Christensen, Loopsel, Monokultur, Maxine Funke, Thomas Bush, Brannten Schnurre, Leighton Craig.. too many others to mention. A definitive document that unites the worlds that have been shaping ours for the past three years. I do like that this has landed at pretty much the exact point of the shop's third birthday, giving us our own line in the sand/high watermark/where-do-we-go-next-with-all-of-this moment. Infinite possibles suggested here, but even if this is all we end up with then it's a hell of a way to put a pin in... something? Incredible effort from Kashual Plastik, from curation to presentation. Take a bow.
