TRii & Hipolito - Circuli & Timer

The TRjj retrospective on Stroom a few years back was on constant rotation here for a fair amount of time, so it's a delight to hear these two new transmissions from their continuingly beguiling universe. This two-tracker with Hipolito, which i'm assuming is either another pseudonym or contributor to the TRjj Group universe, represents a departure of sorts from both the liminal dreamworld sound of the aforementioned comp and the fourth world explorations of last year's Music for Desert Reboot, instead favouring a gentle synthpop eccentricism. What they, in part, factually describe as 'FM synthesis'. The TRjj/ii/Group world remains a mysterious one, and it's a struggle to align what's being produced here with anything else around right now, though if pushed, i'd suggest these two songs are what might happen if you Special Occasion's The Word had been produced for 12th Isle. And there's something of Psychic TV's Dreams Less Sweet on 'Timer'.  Maybe... Either way, this is charming, hypnotic and somewhat confusing material that has raised high hopes for a long player...Edition of 300.
