BIG TIP this one! I first chanced across the wonderfully hypnotic music of Moon Reflecting last Friday morning via Carla dal Forno's latest turn on NTS. Just a few hours later, entirely unrelated, Goaty Tapes enter the shop asking if we'd like to stock copies of Non G.M.O. Rain Dance. Yes, and of course, please. And confirmation were it needed that it's good to have the shop doors open again. Moon Reflecting is Arizona's Cynthia Montross, who makes the kind of DIY instrumental electronic music Goaty has long been tied to. By which i mean this is wonky and smudged, very human sounding electronic music, falling between the cracks of many different things, not exactly new age, ambient, komische, or even dreampop, but also certainly not not those things either. Maybe it's the mention of Arizona, but the desert hangs over this music, all wavy sonic mirages and lonely heat, but also a strange timeless spirituality too. As authentically other and singular as anything i've heard in a while, you could tell me this was found in a garage sale on the west coast having laid undiscovered for the last 30 years and i'd you'd not be called a liar. Beautifully presented as per usual with Goaty.
