Madteo - Head Gone Wrong By Noise

Madteo double header on HJ's - one three track 12, and a double LP. There's a little observable difference between the two (lets say the album allows for more ground to be covered, the 12 a more stylised descent into the Detroit night), though the Madteo approach remains as distinct and disorientating as ever - a snarling mongrel of submerged ghettotech-like vocal samples, haunted dub, minimal techno, and eccentric flourishes with a never disguised evil gleam. At times there's a Villalobos-like obtuseness and wrongheaded metalltic edge to much of Head Gone Wrong By Noise (notably Know You), the sense he's either on the wind up or possessed of no concern for the listener at all. Or both. The LP is near psychedelic in its mashed quality, a head rush through a cut up past, about as non-linear as 'dance' music can get. Both the 12" and album are bewildering and stubborn beasts, born of the same singular mind - the title Str8 Crooked might say more than i ever could. And those Bankhead (i assume?) sleeves, as ever, wrap it all up perfectly, hallucenagenic yet somehow familiar... A new dimension within the continuum, full of monsters.
