Early Music is a new project of mainly string-based music featuring a loose ensemble of artists associated with the label of the same name. Members have backgrounds in DIY scenes making freeform, hardcore, jazz, psych, and 'other' musics. The Early Music side of this release is a slow, tonal, textural, and melodically simple improvised piece played and recorded live at Fasching in Stockholm, Sweden using double bass, nyckelharpa, and electric guitar by Early Music members, Jon Collin and Karl Boson.
Ancient Music is a new project with Michael Krassner at the helm. Krassner is well into his fourth decade as a recording engineer, producer and composer. His primary artistic vehicle, The Boxhead Ensemble, formed in 1991 and has continually produced a steady stream of albums and scores for film, theater and dance. In addition to The Boxhead Ensemble, Krassner still continues collaborations with Simon Joyner, Califone, Adam Ostrar, Mick Turner, John Dieterich and others.
Krassner’s newest project is titled “Ancient Music”. The Ancient Music side of this release is an artistic evolution beyond The Boxhead Ensemble into newer and more personal realms, featuring a set of short, connected solo electric guitar pieces titled “Phoenician Twilight,” an homage to the great Japanese filmmaker Yasujiro Ozu.
Cassette limited to 100.
