Blank Forms’ long previewed re-exploration of The Shadow Ring back catalogue hits its first real stride with these first time reissues of albums 1 and 2. They’d not have imagined it back then, but The Shadow Ring is the name to drop these days, vaunted by all sorts of characters and chancers and those exhausted by the 6Musicification of The Fall (though that’s a discussion for another day). It’s understandable. This is Music (with a capital M) reimagined. Made unknown again. Broken down, reassembled, made perverse/absurd, the rug pulled from under the precious and facile. Things we need more than ever, let’s be honest. DIY avant garde self-determination with few equals. A privilege to have them back in the world. With little more than the end of the world to look fwd to, it's seems apt to look back now to when the music first died.
