cassette
Those lamenting the end of Mosquitoes will find some salve in this latest cassette from Komare, the parallel outfit helmed by two-thirds of the taken-too-soon avant rockers. Where does one end and the other begin? If Mosquitoes made any concessions to rock at all, then Komare seems to abandon such indulgences almost entirely. What is this music? I wont call it sound art, because that would vastly underplay the gnarly wrong-headedness that sits at its core. And understanding this as noise feels distinctly wrong - it may make allusions to the freeform wildness of noise music, but the volume is dialed right back, preferring minimalist detail to maximalist impact. What they do share with Mosquitoes is the ability to convey the darker aspects of avant garde music making, tuned to the shadows, suggesting paranoia, claustrophobia, haunted dreamzones to which you might not wanna return. The one-line press release prosaically details that Grace To Breathe That Void is a "four part document recorded during the apocalypse". This could be what it sounds like stepping out into the world after just such an event. Since it's already after the end of the world, we might just have our ideal soundtrack.
