Slight shift in tone here, as Frederiksberg deliver a long-time-in-the-post reissue of the Norwegian maverick's 1979 ethereal folk synth trip, Lydgimt, and with it the chance to explore yet another obscured history (how many are there?). Of course, Scandinavia has its own noted take on krautrock-like post-prog activity that runs parallel to its German counterparts and, not being an expert on such things, i'd not wish to disavow Schønning's relationship to it. Nonetheless, Lydgimt does suggest a remarkable similarity with Manuel Gottsching and Conrad Schnitzler, and with it a shared vision - he's an uncanny bastard child with his own troublesome freewill and a mild penchant for mutant disco. Which means you get the same kind of cerebral rock nirvana and cosmic passages of folk-derived ambience and electronics associated with his more renowned brethren, alongside a host of other diversions that show Schønning was also watching the dancefloor, turning it inside out or moving it further out, right into the ether. A deep and sometimes ridiculous trip no doubt, but there's real moments in here that'll prick the ears of those who favour a little pastoral absurdism.
