Cassette
Journeying mixtape from Urpa i Musell affiliate, Ignasi, who stays true to the adventurous spirit of a label born out of the experimental confines of Barcelona record shop, Discos Paradisos. This does very much sound like a collection of music pieced together by a person who has spent a lot of time thumbing through various obscure records, haphazardly skirting around styles (ambient, drone, ethnographic++), possibly connecting unseen ties, or at least directing light where light doesn't usually go. And if you don't want to consider it educational, than at least see it as good will - sharing is caring etc etc. In spirit, it's not too dissimilar to the Horn of Plenty cassette we issued a month or two back. You might even be left wondering how you're only hearing some of this now. Funny time for the seasoned 'mixtape', isn't it, what with Mixcloud and niche online radio and everyone now being a 'creator'/'curator' (it's the 2020s equivalent of being a 'photographer'). Still, just like the need/desire for records endures (we're still standing, aren't we?), so the relevance of the mixtape seems to persist, a passage to another world or set of ideas or simply desire to communicate that's very physicality elicits a different kind of relationship and engagement. There might be no 'real' to return to, but it's a reminder we live in a world of things waiting to be (re)discovered.
