Comatonse do the gracious thing in putting back into print the three EPs that were first issued last year to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Terre Thaemlitz's visionary debut. We spilled a lot of words on those records first time around, and the overall sentiment bears repeating again. As with all her work, there's the articulation of queer experience and personal biography present throughout, a vital perspective matched by what is a deeply innovative take on ambient house/techno, drawing on the midnight blue hues of Trip-hop, The KLF's Chill Out and The Art Of Noise's emotional breadth and passing it through the prism of deep house, Japanese minimal electronics and Windham Hill ambience ala Mark Isham. The tracks present across the three records don't account for the full vision of Tranquilizer (there's a more comprehensive CD version that does that job should you desire), but taken as a whole still function as a telling representation of how innovative and wide ranging a collection this is. And it's hard to think of many other albums of its kind that carry such an emotive weight, perhaps because of its creators personal story, perhaps because they're simply a once-in-a-generation producer with an extremely expressive and lucid understanding of aesthetics. As always, no digital and very limited numbers. One per person if you please and cherish what you can get hold it - as good as it gets.
