Minor change of pace for Discreet with this analog synth oriented conceptual piece from Gothenburg's Magnus Jäverling, which depicts a fictional US town living in the spooky after effects of a comet strike. Unfortunate it's arrived a few days after the 31st, because this is perfect Halloween fair in the John Carpenter/Walter Rizzati/Howard Shore/Fabio Frizzi et al tradition, all minimal synth dramatics and suggestions of the unknown. The accompanying storyline has a touch of Stephen King to it, and for some reason i did immediately think of Jay Chattawy's opening titles to Silver Bullet - that meeting of small town ennui and the unknown outsider as coming of age adage - though Jäverling's composition veers a good deal from the sentimental, combining Edgar Frose atmospherics with the occasional allusion to both cold wave and industrial aesthetics. And i wasn't going to say but it's hard to avoid: if you liked what SURVIVE did with the score for Stranger Things, you're gonna find a lot to love here, too. Limited as ever.
