Between the bars, late night mysticism straight outta Vienna from the distinctly European Goldgelb label. Information is, of course (and just how we like it) in short supply, though my instinct is that your man Akrüül is the fella behind the label, leading the charge with a especially smokey and midnight-blackened type of post-punk/industrial informed dance music. While only coming to our attention now, Spiegeleffekte dates all the way back to the Before Times of 2019 and feels almost exotic in its carefree decadence. Rumbling bass and monochrome melody casting shadows and spells. Proper Pernod and Gitanes in the House of Habsburg material. Vital business even if we're a few years behind. Right up to date, though, is Akrüül's split with Kobermann, a noticeably more dub-struck set of burners that suggests some eyes n ears have either been cast the way of CS + Kreme or backwards towards the late 90s orphic transmissions of Tarwater and To Rococo Rot. Or, you know, why not both? Toulouse Low Trax brings a characteristically crunchy remix on the B, made more for the back room than the floor, but the lights are certainly kept well and truly low (and/or red). Whatever is going on here, this lot have certainly got Vienna sounding very alluring.
