Efficient Space do more of what they do best with this previously lost set of final recordings by Australian synth-pop outfit, pel mel. The two albums the band issued during their lifetime were both released by GAP, a Factory-affiliated organisation tasked with licensing a number of their releases for the AUS market. pel mel make a lot of sense within that context, an inventive melody-oriented group with some likeness to ACR or The Other Two (seems like they were all looking towards New York and 99), while also displaying a strain of pop-minimalism that you might associate with Marine Girls, and YMO and their various extensions. Fool's House is a particular highlight, a sparkly love-lorn lament that you can imagine pricking the ears of Alan Horne had he been lucky enough to encounter it, a pop music by any other name, made by those short of the requisite tools but overflowing with the right desires. pel mel had the spirit and kept the feeling...
