Flexi 7" - 10 tracks with fold out poster
Another midnight deep transmission from the Tax Free universe in the form of this single sided 7" flexi from the inscrutable Montel Palmer. Who Palmer is and what he's up to exactly are not even remotely clear, though if you're looking for some insight you'd do worse than dig through the rest of the label roster. Broadly speaking, we're in similar sonic terrain to the outsider bedroom electronics of Gerry Franke and Iris, the latter of which shows up playing guitar here (where and when you'll have to work out yourself). Palmer's vocalisations sit somewhere between the tar black intonations of CIA Debutante and private press outsiderdom (all that business Ariel Pink was riffing on back at start of the century), and are backed by sputtering drum machines, squelching electronics and ghostly k-hole static. Yep, this one's dredged from the depths of either pisstaking or psychosis, and to be quite honest, you'd not want it any other way. Loads more Palmer out there to dig into, but if you're stopping in to take your first punt on the fellas, then a ten track cheap-as-chips flexi aint the worst idea... "As friends deep into the forest roamed, they heard a low and wretched moan"...
