Second compilation on A Colourful Storm, and a sequel of sorts to the I Won't Have To Think About You collection from a few years back. Though the artwork follows a similar theme, musically it couldn't be more different, the focus on female-fronted indiepop from Aus replaced by a selection of IDM/electronica deepcuts. Taken as a pair, the two comps are a fitting reflection of the aesthetic split that defines the label - ACS have reissued three Blueboy albums, and they've also released Christoph de Babylon, Kallista Kult & Velocette records. That's quite the dichotomy. What both records do show is that ACS have an ear for the obscure & obscured, and more importantly, the sensitive & emotional. Not going to pretend I'm familiar with much of Still In My Arms, but I recognise the spirit. Think the more introverted elements of Black Dog, μ-Zig, Plaid, Aphex even... Highly-evolved square wave rhythmic shifters equal parts Drexciya and YMO, but with a wallflower charm and a lot of 90s futurism. Imagine a world where Stinson and Sakamoto are our (only) gods. Still In My Arms allows that daydream a life (again, now enough time has passed for IDM to be back in business)...I'm all for fake nostalgia now the future's cooked. Wonderful stuff we'll be playing all year.
