1982 was a good year for music. I was born. Marginally more influential (only just) that year was the release of this incredible comp of minimal wave, compiled by Dutch radio station VPRO to reflect the abundance of DIY electronic music they'd be championing. The original pressing has been changing hands for silly money, so about time someone like Blowpipe has stepped up to reissue it. There's a lot of comps around of this nature, which is fine by me, but if you're wondering why you need another one then I'm going to point you specifically in the direction of Nine Circles 'What's There Left', a prime slice of heavy-hearted grey soul synthpop that typifies the very reason I gave a shit about this kind of music in the first place - I'll consider it a sister to Carol's indomitable 'So Low'. The rest is as dystopic and EBM as you'd like - particularly hyper are the three Van Kaye and Ignit tracks - but it's the Nine Circles tracks I'd queue round the block for. Get ready to dance at the end of the world once again.
