Privileged to be in the possession of a handful of copies of a two song, tour-only 7" produced to align with a host of dates legendary folk outsider Kath Bloom played at the start of this year. Here she's backed by New Haven's new school folk/avant rock guitarist David Shapiro (of Headroom/Nagual infamy), who I guess you could argue occupies a similar space in the music as to what Loren Connors did for Bloom throughout the 90s. Shapiro indeed does a mighty fine job of playing the sideman, while Bloom remains her brilliant and authentic self, that astonishing voice only partially cracked by time, her sense of love, joy and awe as radiant as ever. A double AA side in the truest sense, though 'People Have Their Dreams' might just nick it by the simple virtue of that most perfect of titles. People do have their dreams, life's not too much without them. After all these years, Bloom keeps divining that feeling of starry wonder.
