Two new very on-brand transmissions from the alien confines of Kashual Plastik. And let's get this out of the way straight out the gate - yes, the INKASSO release is a laser disc. Why I couldn't possibly say, but if you're the kind of person driven as much to the artefact as you are the art, perhaps this is the one for you (or just maybe you're the last cyberwarrior out there to own a laser disc player). Undeniably, the sounds INKASSO make are well suited to such obdurate sideways thinking, and Ego Eraser is as good as anything I've heard from them before, 17 or so minutes of collapsing psychoactive drone-mulch that's been passed back and forth the Stargate one too many times. Think the woozy nightmare decay of Zoviet France, Actress and Werkbund but destined to be heard half as much. Which, all things considered, is really hardly anything at all. The mystery, as ever, dictates the appeal. If clarity is what you seek instead, then you'll perhaps also want to keep walking past this latest collection from Wormhook, the post-post-industrial project from Glasgow's Martin Steuck. For me, though, this is the ideal concoction, a wonked n zonked fog of evil electronics, fourth world disorientation and bedroom synthpop outsiderdom, in ways that unevenly recalls COUM Transmissions, The Books and Jandek in the age of glitch. Impressively confounding.
