And Glasgow is born again. PINS, from what i can gleam, is a new joint label/club night venture focused on the current and/or emerging DIY electronic underground in Glasgow, a city that it's quite clear at this point never creatively sleeps. The city has its own rich vein of dance music history, and the spirit is alive and well here again with these six mostly futurefwd club tracks, drawing on a few names familiar to me - WomenSaid (previously of Optimo), the ever adaptable Helena Celle - and a few that are new. There's a strong independent, DIY spirit that unites them all, even if their approaches take them in different directions, be that the more abrasive, industrial textures of KAVARI or the future-looking glassy techno of Kamus & PinballSpider. A lot to admire, not least the city that keeps allowing this kind of activity to flourish.
