Spritz Editions, the Glasgow-based label run by Loris S Sarid, fulfils its municipal responsibilities with this debut tape compilation of local artists with shared understandings. Some names will be immediately familiar (you'll have your own knowledge to bring to this, but for me: Susannah Stark, Oliver Coates, Allie Ormstron, FREE LOVE, Irik Kusal, Echo Party), others less so, and some I really had no idea were part of the city's ever-deepening musical fabric. And that's ultimately the function of regional collections such as this, speaking to both a particular space and time, as well as casting a light on a surrounding framework for creative practice. Why is it that Glasgow remains ever giving in this sense, a capital city in everything but designation, that seems to provide a north star for a certain type of artist and consistently regenerates anew with fresh perspectives and ideas? There's 16 different acts featured here, obviously connected in certain aesthetic ways but also constitute a broad church of inspirations - let's broadly label this 'experimental electronic/ambient composition' for the sake of ease and then quickly move past that for the sake of accuracy. It speaks to a healthy underground, and captures a view of something you might not otherwise realise was there, a pursuit rooted in a particular tradition (Postcard - Chemikal Underground - Lucky Me - 12th Isle - GLARC and so forth) that also points to a future in local, shared community.
