Possibly the final Garden Portal releases we're likely to see, arriving some seven months after first being announced. Whatever the reasons for the delay and the shuttering of GP, there's five good reasons here to be grateful. As usual, you can only purchase these cassettes as a full set, which is a big ask if you're new to the Garden Portal universe, but an embarrassment of riches for those already familiar with their particular penchant for avant-spirited cosmic folk/americana and drone-based composition. You get all of that here, music born of long-standing traditions and expressions, rendered with an almost punk-like singularity, which might be suggestive of roots in both noise and free musics. No time or space to pick apart each release individually, though for what it's worth i did find øjeRum's Sølverhvide Skyer a particularly ecstatic foray into drone transcendence, and the Carter/Clark/Valdez collaboration an eerily haunted folk digression that feels emotionally apocalyptic. Edition of 150.
