Debut transmission from a People Skills-adjacent four piece who, as they put it themselves, embrace a similar kind of 'countrified hum' to their parent band. Indeed, People Skills fans, much like myself, will be highly enamoured with what Eyes of the Amaryllis are aiming towards here. Adopting what seems to be a 'first thought, best thought' approach, they lean gently into intuitive collaboration, incorporating various elements of found sound and field recordings, non-conformative song structure, electro-acoustic noise-making (i can't think of a better term than that) and spontaneous moments of melodic clarity and beauty, never once sounding indulgent or directionless. Quite the achievement. Like finding a log cabin hidden in the unknown wilderness, there's an unexpected purpose amidst the wild improv of nature. Like with that Maths Balance Volumes record from last year, i've no understanding, really, as to how you'd go about making a record like this, but these four have found a way of doing that through each other and i've nothing but gratitude for that.
