Pelican Daughters - It's time my friend...

First new Pelican Daughters release in quite some time, courtesy of se Dessairir Publishing, the new imprint founded by ambient producer and former Daisart boss, Justin Cantrell. And what a return it is from Andy Rantzen and Justin Brandis, a truly modern collection of post-industrial minimalist electronics that finds intersecting ground between O Yuki Conjugate greyscale 'dirty ambience', fourth world disorientation and post-Cologne dub minimalism. Like with the return of OYC, there's the sense of a masterful but still overlooked duo returning to finally earn their flowers, no interest in retreading the past, pushing out into new spaces while still retaining a distinct sense of self. Given OYC are more popular then ever, and producers like Civilistjavel and the respective universes of West Mineral and 5GATETEMPLE have earned great plaudits for mining similar territory, the title the duo have chosen for this new collection feels remarkably prescient. Who'd have thought two fellas who've been stood at the coalface for 40 years would re-emerge with the sound of 2024? But that they have. Worship no false idols. The old ways might be the new way in...
